Interesting post from the author of Mailchimp Wordpress Plugin about removing a Javascript dependency from his plugin and the likely effects this has on CO2 emissions.
He calculates that by removing a Javascript dependency of around 20 KB this would reduce CO2 emissions by estimated 59 tonnes per month which is incredible. This value derives from a calculation by looking at how much CO2 is on average emitted by producing 10.000 kWh of energy in Europe.
It is very interesting to look into the perspective of how internet technologies/improvements can contribute to reduce global energy consumption and therefore bring down CO2 emissions.
